An industrial RO plant is made up of a number of linked and coordinated processes and activities that work together to produce the required results. Reverse osmosis is a membrane-based filtering method that makes use of a selective membrane to block large molecules or ions from passing through the pores (holes) while allowing smaller solution constituents (such the solvent) to pass easily. A selective membrane holds the solute on the pressurized side while allowing the pure solvent to pass to the other side when pressure is applied to a solution on one side of the membrane. The fact that the two liquid streams flow side by side gives cross-flow filtration its name.
Systems from (BWRO) for brackish water reverse osmosis share a number of fundamental traits.
